Bobby's Rules

Bobby's Rules puts a fast, efficient, and fair spin on Backyard Wiffleball.

These rules are the basics, what you'll need to know before you play.

  • Pitching Rules:

    Pitch to your own team*.
    Pitches MUST be thrown overhand.
    No walks allowed.

    * In the Championship game, you will pitch to your opponent's batters.
  • Fielding & Baserunning Rules:

    Baserunners may not steal or advance on any passed balls.

    You may not have more than 5 players in the field at a time.
    • If a player is substituted in, s/he must remain in game until at least one at-bat.
  • Batting Rules:

    The batter strikes out only if the third strike is swung at, missed, and not foul tipped.
    • Foul tips count as strike for first two strikes only.
    • Foul tips caught behind the batter's box do not count as an out.

  • Mercy Rule:

    A game will be called if a team is up by 10 runs or more after 3 innings.
    Games will be limited to 45min duration.

  • Tie Situations:

    If a game is tied after 5 innings, each team will start the 6th inning with a runner on 2nd and will have one out.
    This will continue until there is a winner.
  • Downtime:

    There will be a 5 minute break between one game ending and another game starting.
    • If your team is not on the field within 10 minutes of being advised that you're about to play, you will forfeit that game and it will go down as a loss (L).
